“Then Abraham fell upon his face, and laughed, and said in his heart, Shall a child be born unto him that is an hundred years old? and shall Sarah, that is ninety years old, bear? ... Therefore Sarah laughed within herself, saying, After I am waxed old shall I have pleasure, my lord being old also?” --Genesis 17:17; 18:12

Tamara's Story

The summer of 2000 I found myself praying that the Lord would bring a baby into our lives. I didn't have anything specific in mind, I just really missed having a baby around and felt a void. Then a few months later our son and his wife announced their wonderful news that they were expecting so I thought this was my answer. Ahhhh...but the Lord delights in blessing us abundantly above all that we can think or ask!  By the summer of 2001, we were not only grandparents, but we were also expecting our seventh child. What an enormous surprise it was! Now I had two adorable babies to enjoy, a precious little granddaughter (who lives about 15 minutes away) and a precious little son or daughter on the way.

It had been over ten years since my sixth child was born so in some ways it was like starting all over again. I spent time praying and filling my mind with God’s Word and allowing Him to keep me encouraged and strengthened. There were so many negative articles about pregnancy after forty that I refused to be discouraged by reading all of it –after all, it was the LORD who had this marvelous idea of blessing us with another baby in my forties and He certainly could be trusted to take care of the baby and me.

The Lord was so faithful to answer all of our prayers for a totally healthy pregnancy with no complications and for a safe, quick, and "redeemed" labor and delivery with healthy baby and healthy mom.  Everything went beautifully thanks to His marvelous grace and mercy and wisdom! To Him be ALL the glory!

Caitlin Rose was born on March 29th at 4:28 a.m.
She was 7lbs., 21 inches long

What an awesome time of praise and thanksgiving we had when we welcomed Caitlin into our arms after a brief 2 1/2 hour labor on March 29, 2002! We dedicated her to the Lord right away, and we know the Lord has such special plans for her.  She, like all of our children, was born at home, so all her older siblings were thrilled to be able to spend time with her and bond with her right away.

Tamara and Caitlin

Words are inadequate to express our thankfulness to the Lord for all He has done for me and for our family in blessing us with little Caitlin Rose --she is truly a precious gift from Him and we’re enjoying every minute with her. Yes, our lifestyle has drastically changed in the last two years, but oh is she worth it all!

Tamara and Caitlin, now a busy toddler!

Now she is a bouncy almost two year old and still nursing, but learning new things everyday and talking a mile a minute. She keeps the bounce in my step and a smile on my lips and our home is filled with laughter and joy as we discover the wonder of toddlerhood once again. I feel at least ten years younger since she’s been born! I highly recommend “older motherhood”!

Tamara with Caitlin, enjoying every minute!

I pray the Lord will bless each visitor to this site in a mighty way and give you a glimpse of His good plans for your life! He can be trusted totally in every area to work out every detail!

In His Love,

Tamara

Encouragement from Kate

I was pregnant at 40, 42 and 44 and I hope I'm not done yet!  I've loved every minute of it!!

This last pregnancy was the easiest one I've had so far.  I had worked on exercising and detoxing the year before and although I was the heaviest I've ever been, I was also in the best shape internally.

The older I've been has made it easier for me to keep life in perspective.  When I was younger (I had my first at 29) it was easier for me to see everything as a major issue.  I was harsher and more easily stressed.  Now I realize, "this too will pass" about MOST things in life.  I enjoy my children more instead of thinking how others might be evaluating my parenting skills.

In some ways, I have found that having babies has kept me young on the inside.  There are a number of women I know who are my age (or younger) with their children mostly grown.  I find them to seem more "middle aged" in their thinking and life views.

My view is that I'll be too old for children when God says I'm too old and my body is no longer functioning for child bearing.

Pray that the Lord blesses each pregnancy and fills your heart with His joy at the precious gift He's given to you.

In His Joy and Grace,

Kate Megill

Kathleen's Story

Hello, Tamara, I enjoyed your website and hope you get lots of testimonies up here to encourage people. It makes me so mad the way the medical establishment tries to scare us older moms. One one board I am on, a doctor told one woman she should quit having babies after THIRTY! I didn't even START till 30 and have had my last 2 of six after the age of 40. They were very easy pregnancies and I felt wonderful. They were also successful VBACs after my 4th ended up in a C-section.

My husband got a vasectomy after baby number 4 but we were convicted to have it reversed and have two more wonderful blessings. My oldest is 13 and my youngest is now almost 2.  I am 44 and would love to have another but I don't know if it will happen, as my cycle has become very irregular. I am one of those crazy people who feels better and actually loses weight when pregnant!

Our two youngest children have blessed our life so incredibly. Our older four children love them to pieces and have learned to give of themselves and be more patient and less selfish than many children these days. They know how to work and help me out tremendously. My husband and I also feel like we about "have it down" too. Having babies is very stressful on marriage, but the last one was so much easier, as we have learned what to expect and how to roll with the punches so to speak.

God bless,

Kathleen

Martha's Story

Thank you so much for such a *positive* site for older moms!! I am looking forward to exploring your site more.

My husband and I have 10 children, ranging in age from 22 down to 9 months. I, too, am so tired of all the negative things the world has to say about moms giving birth at such an *advanced* age.

I was 1 month shy of 40 when we conceived our 10th baby, I didn't even realize I was pregnant for several weeks. We thought the Lord was done blessing us, as it had been 3 years since the birth of our 9th baby. Even after confirming the pregnancy, I was sure that something was wrong and I wouldn't carry the baby long. The reason for this was that I was VERY sick with all my pregnancies, throwing up constantly for at least the first 3 or 4 months, and sometimes longer. I hadn't been sick at all with this one, just felt real tired, and kind of lousy at times. Of course, I had people praying for me, and I prayed daily that the Lord would spare me some of the sickness that I had experienced with my previous pregnancies. Even so, I still felt something must be wrong when I wasn't sick *at all*.

It finally occurred to me that maybe I wasn't going to be sick!!

I had a wonderful pregnancy, the best ever, and gave birth to a healthy, beautiful, big baby boy on March 28 of last year.

I thank God daily for bringing Strider into our lives, and increasing our quiver. I pray that God will allow me to experience pregnancy and childbirth again, even though most folks look at us like we're crazy!!

Thank you again,

Martha Mitchell ~ blessed mom of Erin 22, Tyler 18, Christopher 16, Cody 14, Jesse 12, Colton 10, Sawyer 8, Cheyenne 6, Delanie 4, and Strider 9 months
